Il 27 gennaio 2010 Steve Jobs presentò per la prima volta l’iPad, il dispositivo che avrebbe rivoluzionato il mondo dei tablet di lì in avanti. Insomma, buon compleanno iPad!
Queste le parole di Steve Jobs:
Everybody uses a laptop and a smartphone.
And a question has arisen lately: is there room for a third category of device in the middle? Something that’s between a laptop and a smartphone. And of course we’ve pondered this question for years as well. The bar’s pretty high. In order to really create a new category of devices, those devices are going to have to be far better at doing some key tasks.
Better than a laptop. Better than a smartphone.
Now, some people have thought…that’s a netbook. The problem is, netbooks aren’t better at anything. They’re slow, they have low quality displays and they run clunky old PC software. So, they’re not better than a laptop at anything. They’re just cheaper. They’re just cheap laptops. We don’t think they’re a new category of device. But we think we’ve got something that is. And we’d like to show it to you today for the first time.
And we call it…the iPad.
I giornalisti presenti ebbero modo di provare l’iPad per pochi minuti, ma le prima recensioni furono molto positive. Il tablet Apple venne poi commercializzato ufficialmente il 3 aprile negli USA, per poi arrivare in Italia qualche settimana più tardi.
L’iPad ha cambiato il modo di intendere il concetto di tablet, ma anche rivoluzionato il modo di usufruire di alcuni servizi, come internet, lettura di libri e mail. Le vendite hanno dato ragione ad Apple e ad un anno di distanza l’iPad è ancora il punto di riferimento praticamente unico nel panorama dei tablet.
